Articles which are imported for repair, samples for testing, or other temporary importation may be entered duty free under Temporary Import under Bond (TIB).
These goods may be imported into the U.S. without payment of duty by posting a bond to guarantee they will be exported. Goods must be exported within 1 year (extensions can be up to 3 years), or the bond is forfeited - usually twice the amount of the customs duties that would have been paid on the original import. |
